Why join theMAC?

As a member of theMAC, you will be part of the oldest - and single largest - non-profit professional society in Colorado for those who provide private mediation services or work in the area of conflict resolution. theMAC’s cadre of highly experienced and expert professionals represents a broad and inclusive perspective on conflict resolution. It includes full and part-time mediators, educators, human resources professionals, clergy, financial planners, therapists, general contractors, real estate brokers and developers, family and divorce professionals, jurists, former jurists, and attorneys. This range of perspective and depth of expertise continually enhances all our work and offers new mediators access to incredibly diverse mentors.

theMAC continues to work to successfully create inroads into the Colorado Judicial Branch website, providing the public with additional access to qualified mediators all over the state. Now, when parties seek an alternative to litigation or are ordered to mediation, the courts, attorneys and litigants have easy access to theMAC’s Find-a-Mediator search engine and to theMAC Professional Members. theMAC's Legislative Committee works each year to assist in crafting legislation that can provide Colorado citizens with greater options for dispute resolution. We are testifying before House and Senate Committees, working with the Supreme Court Justices, the Office of Attorney Regulation and the DORA HOA Information Officer to design better ways to resolve conflict - and to ensure those who provide mediation services are qualified to do so.

With the increase in pro se litigation (parties who are not represented by counsel), there is a greater need for skilled mediators to assist the courts in providing responsible Access to Justice to these parties. In fact, theMAC is listed as an option on all district court "Orders to Mediate" in Colorado. While the Colorado Supreme Court grapples with the need for qualified mediators who are available and accountable to a standard of practice and procedure, theMAC leads by example. When the Office of Dispute Resolution Advisory Committee suggested standards to determine “qualified” mediators, they looked to theMAC.
